KLM Welcomes Its Fourth Airbus A321neo (PH-AXD) to the Fleet
Just before the end of 2024, KLM receives its fourth A321neo. This new Airbus, named Clouded Magpie (Porseleinvlinder), will be used for European flights.
Within just four months, the KLM fleet has expanded from 0 to 4 A321neo aircraft. In September, we wrote about the first delivery of KLM's new Airbus. This rapid expansion highlights KLM's commitment to modernization and sustainability.
A321neo - Clouded Magpie
With the arrival of PH-AXD, KLM's current Airbus A321neo fleet now includes:
- PH-AXA, nicknamed Swallowtail (Koninginnepage).
- PH-AXB, nicknamed Peach Blossom (Braamvlinder).
- PH-AXC, nicknamed Common Brimstone (Citroenvlinder).
- PH-AXD, nicknamed Clouded Magpie (Porseleinvlinder).
The A321neo aircraft represent a significant addition to the KLM fleet. These planes offer greater passenger capacity and are designed to be more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly than their predecessors. This aligns with the broader strategy of airlines to reduce CO2 emissions and operate quieter flights.

You may have noticed that KLM gives each of its aircraft a unique name. With themes ranging from world cities and birds to flowers and castles, KLM assigns a recognizable name to each plane.
The theme for the A321 series is butterflies. Alongside the Swallowtail, Peach Blossom, and Common Brimstone, the fleet now welcomes the Clouded Magpie.
Anticipating the Next Delivery
The fleet renewal won't stop in 2024; it will continue into 2025. In addition to the Neos, KLM will also be expanding its Boeing and Embraer fleets. Early 2025 is expected to bring the new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (PH-BKO).
We are delivering on our promises and continuing to invest in cleaner, quieter, and more efficient flying to keep connecting the Netherlands with the rest of the world.
Transavia
Also, Transavia, part of the Air France-KLM Group, received its seventh Airbus A321neo this month, with registration code PH-YHC. Within a year of the first delivery, Transavia has already received seven of these aircraft, with the goal of eventually replacing all 737s.
